Mayssa Bastos; GFTeam

Mayssa Bastos mentions, “O ano de 2016 foi bom” (2016 was a good year). This year was a very competitive year for Mayssa as she focused on testing her jiu-jitsu by competing across many countries. The Campeonato Brasileiro De Jiu-Jitsu, the IBJJF World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu (weight and absolute), 2016 BJJ Pro in San Paulo, Rio Open Jiu-Jitsu and the IBJJF 2016 European Open are a few examples where she reigned as Champion. Out of the many competitions, Mayssa reflects on the IBJJF Worlds as she shares that all opponents were very competitive and great jiu-jitsu practitioners. “A do Mundial da ibjjf porque foi o campeonato mais importante e foram muitas lutas duras até chegar no ouro.” (The IBJJF World’s was the most important because I had many though fights and I was able to get the gold.)

Recently, Mayssa was promoted to brown belt. When asked what her new belt and what it meant to her, she modestly stated, “Eu fiquei muito feliz com a nova graduação mas sei também que tenho que trabalhar duro nela para conseguir ter bons resultados.” (I got very happy with my new belt promotion but I know that need to work hard to get good results.). Mayssa is well aware that her new jiu-jitsu game will require much foresight into techniques not allowed as purple belt. “Não tem diferença na faixa marrom tem muita menina dura mas também na faixa roxa tem, a única coisa que muda um pouco são que algumas posições que não valiam para às roxas valem pra marrom.” (I don’t think there is much difference in the brown belt as there wore many tough ones in the purple, the only thing that changed is some of the new techniques that wore not legal on the purple belt and now are legal on the brown.)

As 2017 approaches very quickly, We asked about her plans for the upcoming year. “2017…. pretendo lutar as principais da ibjjf com e sem kimono e o World pro em Abu Dhabi.” (2017…. I plan to compete in main IBJJF competitions Gi and NoGi and the World Pro in Abu Dhabi.)
