The Source of Life and Jiu-Jitsu Longevity: Water

About three weeks ago, I was approached by a Kangen Water distributor to see if I’d be interested in sampling their product to help me with my jiu-jitsu training. I was given three weeks supply of the filtered water and was asked to provide them with feedback on my experience. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical but, nevertheless passed judgment and decided on giving it a try. After all, it’s only water right?

We all know that a large part of our body is water. According to the United States Geological Survey’s (USGS), our body is made up of approximately 60% water, which is an important element to every cell in your body. Carbs, proteins and other vital nutrients are carried by water in our bloodstream.

Now most of us can agree that we usually purchase some form of water filter or water brand because of the water quality we think it carries. Contamination of ground water occurs regularly, and the thought of pesticides, chloride to potentially toxic organic compounds.

So what is Kangen Water? Kangen or Alkaline water is water technology that helps restore your body’s PH back normal limits. This essentially means that your blood acidic levels are lowered, thus reducing the bodies susceptibility to getting sick. It facilitates hydration and improves overall body functioning. (I will add links for you to read on the biology of water for you to decide for yourself).

I usually drink “Smart Water” but decided on trying this product to see if my training improved. I kept a log and literally changed nothing except for my water source. I maintained my caloric intake as I usually do, consumed the same amount of water, worked out the same etc.

First week was interesting. My stomach was making interesting noises and my digestive system slightly changed (let’s just say it detoxified me). I felt bloated and was a bit uncomfortable. I wasn’t feeling this Kangen water and considered discontinuing this product review. However, I decided to continue with my commitment.

Second week was much better for me. I found my endurance lasting a bit longer than usual and was not as tired. My cardio was slightly better when going on my long runs. Usually after a long run, my body stiffens up and I usually need to stretch longer. This is one area I really saw a difference in.

In the final week, I found that training required less water intake and was not as sore the following day. Don’t get me wrong, soreness existed but it wasn’t like before where I wake up as if I just finished a jiu-jitsu tournament or ran a marathon.

Overall, I have to say that Kangen water took some adjustment but I did find some value to it. During my research, I found that some Jiu-Jitsu and MMA fighters actually drink kangen water for its outcomes. Kevin Hart and other celebrities even provide testimonials on the benefits of this product.

At the end of the day, you decide what is best for you. I’ve added links to my research references and hope this helps you decide whether Kangen water is good for you.
